Def Jam: Icon is the third game in the Def Jam series of hip-hop fighting games. For those new to the series, Def Jam games have the player take the role of a real-life hip-hop superstar like Sean Paul, Ludacris, or Lil Jon and battle in physical hand-to-hand combat. This is the first Def Jam game not developed by Aki Corporation. Previous games were more wrestling oriented, but Icon instead incorporates streetfighting, tae kwon do, capoeira, etc. You can choose from over 35 artists and fight in various venues from strip clubs to gas stations, from an Atlanta neighborhood to BET’s 106 & Park.
Unique to the Def Jam gameplay is the hip-hop soundtrack will actually affect the fight. Artists are more powerful when their song is on. Hazardous events will occur during certain beats of the song so players can time their attacks to combo with hazards by listening to the beats. Your attacks will also do more damage if they hit with the beat of the music.
