Crysis is an upcoming first person shooter for Windows developed by Crytek, the makers of Far Cry. Crysis has attracted much attention as one of the first games to utilize Microsoft's DirectX 10, which should enable the game to deliver the next generation of cutting edge graphics. The game won several awards at E3 2006.
The game's story takes place in 2019 in the South China Sea. A meteorite has crashed in the Spratly Islands and Delta Force has been deployed to investigate. The North Koreans, a formidable force in this story, have already taken control of the island. The early game involves the conflict between US and North Korean forces over rights to the meteorite. However, international conflict is quickly diminished as the meteorite is revealed to contain a hostile alien ship. The alien ship is able to alter the weather, which results in gameplay in dynamic environments.
Crysis will feature fully modifiable equipment: weapons can be upgraded with silencers, targeting scopes and targeting lasers, but the player can even upgrade the character with mods to his Nano Muscle Suit that include heavier armor, reduced noise, increased speed, higher jumping capability, and regenerative properties.
The game will feature 32-player multiplayer in "Tactical Deathmatch," "Tactical Team Deathmatch," and "Power Struggle." The modes are considered tactical because you can customize your character's build. Power Struggle is a longer multiplayer mode where two teams start with only a pistol and starter nano-suit. Players kill members of the other team to gain points which can be used to purchase weapons, vehicles, and manufacturing plants. Players can create human-alien hybrid technology, such as cloaked tanks. A Power Struggle game can take up to 10 hours (5 game days).
