Burnout Dominator is a new game in the Burnout series of racing games. This is not Burnout 5, the game designed for Xbox 360 and PS3. Burnout Dominator is designed for only the PS2 and PSP. The series is known for reckless driving based racing. Burnout Dominator centers around burnouts, when you completely use a boost until it burns out without stopping for any reason, such as crashing. Driving recklessly while using a boost can recharge the boost meter after you have drained your current boost. Dominator brings back the gameplay of Burnout 2 in place of the focus on crashing in recent Burnout games.

The game's single player is split into a 7 series World Tour. Each series features a different class of cars and a number of games, including standard races, a road rage game where you must take out other drivers within a time limit, and a game where you earn points by driving dangerously. The PSP version allows multiplayer gameplay over Wi-Fi.
