Due to user demand, IPOs will now occur based on a schedule. Notification will be provided on the right side of the blog. Games will no longer randomly appear as listed on the front page.
Konami's Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (DS), +51.32 DKP (+42.77%), opened its first day as a publicly traded stock at 120 DKP and closed at 171.32 DKP (forecasts 1.71 million copies sold worldwide over lifetime). Electronic Arts Inc's Spore (PC), +105.00 DKP (+52.50%), also opened with a stellar IPO, rising to 305.00 DKP (forecasts 3.05 million copies sold worldwide over lifetime). These are the first two games to be listed on the simExchange using the new user submitted games process. This is an early stage process that will eventually evolve into a full market driven IPO process.
The popular video game blog Joystiq has written an article on the simExchange. Check it out here.
The growing simExchange video game stock market has resulted in more buyers picking up video games stocks for the first time.
Microsoft's upcoming Halo 3 (Xbox 360), +159.65 DKP (+42.8%), quickly rose to 532.97 DKP (forecasts 5.33 million copies sold worldwide over lifetime), putting it in the league of the previous two editions.
Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii, +1207 DKP (+25.3%) , also had a good day closing at 5,982.20 DKP (forecasts 59.82 million consoles sold worldwide over lifetime) following a strong launch in Japan and evidence that the console can potentially lead this generation.
Nintendo Co Ltd's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, +92.05 DKP (+37.2%), finally had its day after hovering in the same range for most of its life since listing and now rising to 339.76 DKP (forecasts 3.40 million copies sold worldwide over lifetime).
Stocks across the board were mostly higher, with advancers far outnumbering decliners.
As the simExchange has grown, our capacity for providing luxurious data updates has not (so far). Stock listing pages like the Platform and Genre pages now refresh every 30 seconds instead of every 3 seconds. The Portfolio and Order Status pages now refresh every 10 seconds instead of every 3 seconds. The Order Book now refreshes every 5 seconds instead of 3 seconds. The net worth rankings page is now based off of rankings as of the previous day’s close at midnight Pacific time and no longer refreshes automatically. Hopefully this will dramatically reduce server load times.
Last night some people noticed shares of Microsoft's Xbox 360 dropped to below 400 DKP. This was not the result of coordinated selling but some error that occurred during the period our web hosting tried moving the simExchange's database to another database server (which resulted in an inability for many users to connect for a few hours). All players making trades at the bugged price had their Xbox 360 transactions rolled back (you basically got a full refund).
My hosting has been reaching its capacity. If you haven't received your automated confirmation email for creating an account, the hiccup in service may have affected this. Please fill out the Ask a Question form in the Help section requesting another confirmation email. Sorry for the inconvenience.
A bug that prevented users from voting down game submissions on both the Games submitted for listing pages and the Pending game pages has now been fixed.
Based on strong user demand, I whipped up a way for users to submit games for listing on the simExchange. Please keep in mind this is an early solution--this process will eventually evolve to utilize innovative market mechanics to efficiently list the games the market (you guys) wants to trade.
You can submit games using the Submit a Game form. Please read the instructions carefully. Once you submit the form, the application for your game's listing will be accessible to users in the Unlisted Games part of the Community section. You can view the game applications by most recent submissions or by most popular submissions. Although you cannot modify the application directly after submission at this time, you and others can post comments on the application and this discussion will be used for the final listing of the game. You can keep track of your submissions on the Your submissions page.
Please comment if you think the submitter's target IPO price for the game is justified. If you are looking forward to the game getting listed, vote up the game. You can also vote an application down. Voting will be a factor in when a game is listed. A game's listing may be delayed for more concrete information about the game to emerge.
You must be a registered member of the simExchange to use this feature. If you have questions about this process, please post them here.
I'd like to thank Buttonbasher for plugging the simExchange. Buttonbasher is an independent blog written by KLind that focuses mainly on Nintendo gaming. Check out the plug here.
