Viva Pinata plummets following November sales numbers

Posted by Brian Shiau at 9:14PM on January 1, 2007

Microsoft's Viva Pinata (Xbox 360), -3.40 DKP (-6.14%), has fallen from 93.11 DKP (forecasts 931,100 copies sold worldwide over lifetime) to 52.00 DKP since December 24. Many traders had expected the game to be a sleeper hit following a unique gameplay concept for the Xbox 360 that appeals to both kids and adults. Expectations climbed higher as the game was greeted with strong reviews. The stock exploded in early December as bloggers declared the game a sleeper hit. However, sales estimates indicated the game had only sold 42,000 copies in November, well below what many had expected for them to justify a stock price that had hovered in the mid-90s. The decline has slowed as some investors still believe the game can gain momentum with its new television show and word-of-mouth recommendations.

November sales numbers drive stock correction

Posted by Brian Shiau at 8:49PM on January 1, 2007

Stocks across the board continue to close lower following the digestion of November sales numbers. Since December 24, Take Two's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PSP), -6.80 DKP (-3.09%), shares declined 24.7% from 282.97 DKP to 213.20 DKP (forecasts 2.13 million copies sold worldwide over lifetime); Sony Corp.'s SOCOM: Combined Assault (PS2), -2.00 DKP (-1.56%), fell 14.7% from 148.33 DKP to 126.50 DKP; Sega Sammy Holding Inc.’s Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360, -0.72 DKP (-1.38%), dropped 9.0% from 56.40 DKP to 51.30 DKP (513,000 copies sold worldwide over lifetime) DKP while the PS3 version dropped nearly 15% from 48.92 DKP to 41.63 DKP; and Activision's new Tony Hawk installment, Project 8, for the Xbox 360 fell 9.7% from 92.84 DKP to 83.80 DKP after falling from over 104 DKP just the week before. These are just a highlight of games whose stocks have fallen as initial sales disappointed expectations ahead of the year's biggest month of video game spending.

Hellgate: London (PC) IPO announced

Posted by Brian Shiau at 5:32PM on December 19, 2006

Hellgate London, the FPS/RPG hybrid for PC made by the creators of Blizzard's Diablo, will debut on the simExchange on Friday, December 22, 2006. It will be categorized under the Role-Playing genre. This game will open for 80 DKP (forecasts 800,000 copies sold worldwide over lifetime). This game was submitted by Nicka.

Hellgate: London is a first-person shooter and RPG hybrid by the creators of Blizzard's Diablo series. Former Blizzard members have formed Flagship Studios and Hellgate: London will be their first title. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where London has been invaded by demons and the year is 2038.

Although the game is played like a first-person shooter, the character's success depends heavily on his stats rather than the player's skill at mouse pointing and clicking. The game design uses Diablo's theme of random generation to allow for great replayability. Hellgate: London will feature cooperative online gameplay in a single unified world (rather than individual servers or realms) but parties will play in instances.

Unreal Tournament 2007 (PC) IPO

Posted by Brian Shiau at 4:00PM on December 19, 2006

Midway Games' and Epic's Unreal Tournament 2007 for PC will debut on the simExchange on Thursday, December 21, 2006. It will be categorized under the Shooter genre. This game will open for 160 DKP (forecasts 1.6 million copies sold worldwide over lifetime). This game was submitted by Randomrage.

The summary for the game is the following:

Unreal Tournament 2007 (UT2007) is the next game in the Unreal Tournament series of first-person multiplayer shooters. Like previous UT games, UT2007 is primarily an online multiplayer game with a single player mode for players to practice with AI bots. The story is minimal as players are pitted against each other in a series of shooting matches as part of a Sci-Fi tournament.

Epic promises the game will not be a prettier UT2004 but an entirely new game. The game features the Unreal Engine 3.0. UT2007 will feature a map editor and several modes from previous UT games. However, UT2007 will be dropping Bombing Run, Double Domination, and Assault modes in place for a new mode, "Unreal Warfare." This new mode features larger battles with many players and vehicles. AI bots are now smarter and will respond to simple commands over voice chat.
